Walmart Neighborhood Market Coming to Palm Desert

Walmart is opening a Neighborhood Market in the former Toys R Us building at Highway 111 and Fred Waring Drive.

The retail giant confirmed Tuesday its plans to occupy the 45,000-square-foot building at 72-314 Highway 111. The building, owned by El Segundo-based Paragon Commercial Group, has been vacant since August 2011, when Toys R Us left after 21 years for a new store it built in Indio.

This will be Walmart’s first Neighborhood Market in the Coachella Valley — and Riverside County, said Palm Desert Mayor Jan Harnik, and will create about 100 construction jobs.
